Origin of name
According to Marko Cepenkov capital of Krale Marko named Varos started to migrate people to build houses that were clinging to the walls of Varos. New town looked like the attached Varos therefore named Prilep.
History
City

present location of the city of Prilep originates from the early Middle
Ages, when Prilep was an important trade and military-strategic
capital. It

Economy
Prilep
is the center of production of high quality tobacco and cigarettes,
metal processing, electronic, paper, textile, food and marble industry
(mine "Sivec).
Tobacco is one of the fist agriculture which succeeds in Macedonia's climate. Many of the major world producers of tobacco use tobacco Prilep after processing at their local factories. When in Prilep was founded Tobacco Institute to create new types of tobacco, it was the first example of the application of genetics in agriculture in the Balkans.
